Akšamija Valida

Valida Tvrtković Akšamija was born in Višegrad, where she completed elementary school. She continued her secondary education at the High School of Music in Sarajevo (Department of Solo singing), and later completed the General Department externally. She graduated (2002) from the Department of Music Theory and Pedagogy at the University of Sarajevo - Academy of Music, and (2008) obtained her master's degree with a thesis on "Teaching Technology in Music Education - The Role, Experience, Application." By meeting the requirements and obtaining the scientific degree of Master of Music in the field of Methodology of Music Teaching, she continued her academic advancement, defending her doctoral dissertation (2014) on "Innovations in Music Education - Preparation for Lifelong Learning," earning the scientific degree of Doctor of Science in the field of Musicology - Music Pedagogy - Methodology of Music Teaching. At the Academy of Music of the University of Sarajevo, she continuously worked as an assistant and senior assistant on the subject of Methodology of Music Teaching I-VIII from 2004 to 2014, and since January 2015, she has been in the position of assistant professor in the same subject. Since 2019, she has been appointed as an assistant professor for the subjects Methodology of Inclusive Music Education, Music Pedagogy, Contemporary Methodological Practices, Methodological and Pedagogical Practice, and Research Methodology in Music Pedagogy. In 2024, she was promoted to the position of associate professor for the subjects Methodology of Music Teaching I-VIII, Methodology of Inclusive Music Education, Music Pedagogy, Contemporary Methodological Practices, Methodological and Pedagogical Practice, Research Methodology in Music Pedagogy, and Main Subject - Methodology of Music Teaching.

Her extensive pedagogical experience began with work with children of different ages in 1988, when she started her first job at the Primary Music School Goražde and continued during the war (1992 - 1996) at the Second Primary School in Goražde. Upon arriving in Sarajevo (1996), she began working as a music teacher at the elementary school Silvije Strahimir Kranjčević, where she worked until 2007, while also working at the First Bosniak Gymnasium as a music teacher from 2001 - 2009. During the academic years 2005/2006 and the summer semester of 2008/2009, she was engaged as a teaching assistant and senior teaching assistant at the Faculty of Pedagogy (formerly the Pedagogical Academy) on the subjects Music Culture, Methodology of Music Education, Methodology of Teaching Music Culture, and elective subjects Choir/Choir and Music Workshop. The collaboration with the Faculty of Pedagogy continued in the academic year 2015/2016 as an assistant professor on the subjects Methodology of Music Education and Methodology of Teaching Music Culture.

She has published numerous papers in scientific and professional journals. She is one of the authors of the Guidelines for the Improvement of the Teaching Profession, Research Study, Sarajevo (2020). She successfully completed the Grant Program for Professional Development of Teaching Staff and the TRAIN Program of the University of Sarajevo (2016), the Grant Program for Professional Development of Teaching Staff of the University of Alberta in Canada and the E-Net Center of the Faculty of Economics Sarajevo from 2006 to 2007. As part of the TEMPUS project Equal Opportunities for Students with Special Needs in Higher Education (2013) at the University of Sarajevo, she completed training for academic and non-academic staff to work with students with developmental difficulties.

She has participated in numerous symposia and conducted many seminars, workshops, and other lectures throughout Bosnia and Herzegovina and the region. She has been a member of the Musicological Society since 2004 and was a member of its Board of Directors from 2008 to 2012. She is a member of the ICTM (International Council for Traditional Music) National Committee of BiH and the editorial board of the journal "Music" since 2014. From 2012, she was engaged as the secretary of the Center for Music Education, and from 2016 to 2019, she was the head of the Center. She held the position of head of the Department of Music Theory and Pedagogy at the Academy of Music of the University of Sarajevo from 2015 to 2019. She has been the Vice-Dean for Teaching and Student Affairs at the Music Academy of the University of Sarajevo since 2020.
