The most important task of Department of Music Theory and Pedagogy is to educate future teachers and provide them with knowledge and skills needed for successful teaching in the field of music theory and pedagogy. Their profile is suitable for music teachers in general primary and secondary music schools.
Besides, Department’s mission is to raise and educate students for other musical activities, such as leading choral and instrumental ensembles, different kinds of accompaniment, choral singing, music arrangements, music art animators, etc. Students of Department of Music Theory and Pedagogy have passed a demanding admission exam and during their studies a great importance is attached to classroom observation and internship in general primary and secondary schools and in secondary music schools. This is the way to apply the acquired knowledge in actual classes, with supervision and ultimately independently.
At present, the following teachers deliver classes in major courses at Department of Music Theory and Pedagogy: Senad Kazić and Nerma Hodžić-Mulabegović (Solfeggio), Refik Hodžić and Naida Hukić (Harmony), Valida Tvrtković-Akšamija (Methodology of Music Teaching), Amila Ramović (Aspects of 20th century music, Music work analysis), Amra Bosnić (Music forms and styles, Music work analysis); Ena Brdar Plakalo is a teaching assistant in the course Solfeggio teaching methods and practice, and Nermin Ploskić is a teaching assistant in the course Methodology of Music Teaching. Teachers and teaching assistants of the department are also active in the Center of Music Education, which is part of Department.
